College is a time that, for a majority of those who attend, is the first chance at nearly total freedom. College students are given the opportunity to do as they please–to take the classes they want, choose their own path and carve it through only their own will. And sometimes, this huge dose of freedom is a little too much for some of us–we make mistakes and forget why we're really in college: to broaden our educational horizons and take in everything that we can from the experience. Currently sitting in last place in the American League East, I wouldn't be too keen on suggesting you take any baseball lessons from the Yankees right now. The way they've played lately, you'd be better off straying away from emulating anything they're doing on the diamond. They say that television melts your brain. It makes you dumb, kills brain cells or contributes to the downfall of society as a whole. I'm here to dispute that. Although I don't watch a lot of television myself (hardly any, actually), television certainly can be educational. While shows on the History Channel or TLC can help the watcher grow and learn in the conventional sense, some atypical TV shows can go a bit further, telling us more about life. Here are three quotes from unlikely sources that can be applied to everyday life. "Every man for himself is not going to work...if we can't live together we're gonna die alone." The quote that main character Jack Sheppard from the ABC drama LOST utters in a particularly dramatic season one scene outlines a basic premise that we should all consider.
